Türk Motor Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi (TÜMOSAN) was established in 1975 to manufacture engine drive and power trains and similar equipment, but later focused its activities on diesel engine and tractor production. The first diesel engine manufacturer of Turkey, TÜMOSAN not only provided diesel engines to tractors with the same brand, but also produced diesel engines for brands like TÜRK TRAKTÖR and OTOYOL for long years. Continuous change is the common goal of TÜMOSAN employees to achieve the quality production and perfection that meets all expectations of customers.

Background

Türk Motor Sanayi ve Ticaret Anonim Şirketi (TÜMOSAN) was established in Ankara in June 23, 1976 to manufacture engine drives and power trains, with a capital of 100 Million TL and participations of Mechanical and Chemical Industry Corporation (MKEK), Turkish Agricultural Equipment Corporation (TZDK), Şekerbank, Turkish Maritime Bank and State Industry and Worker Investment bank, pursuant to the decision of Council of Ministers dated December 05, 1975 and numbered 75/10905 and in accordance with the provisions of Turkish Commercial Code.

The shares of MKEK was transferred to Heavy Industry and Automotive Corporation (ASOK) on November 13, 1984 with the Statutory Decree (KHK) numbered 233 and the ASOK shares were transferred back to MKEK pursuant to the decision of State Planning Organization dated April 18, 1990 and to the KHK numbered 233.

The headquarters of the company was first in Ankara and then transferred to Konya in September 19, 1985 pursuant to the decision of Economic Affairs Supreme Coordination Council dated September 12, 1984 and numbered 157.

5 projects were undertaken at the foundation and licensing, engineering, supply, marketing and training agreements were concluded with the following companies:

  • Tractor Project: FIAT TRATTORI-ITALY

  • Diesel Engines Project: FIAT TRATTORI-İTALYA

  • Light Service Diesel Engines Project: MITSUBISHI-JAPAN

  • Truck and Heavy Truck Engines Project: DAIMLER BENZ GERMANY,VOLVO-SWEDEN

Truck and heavy truck diesel engines project of Tümosan was transferred to Aksaray Motor Sanayi ve Ticaret A.Ş.(AKMOSAN), established in April 5 ,1979 and 82.8% capital of which is owned by Tümosan. However, AKMOSAN was transferred to ASOK with the KHK No.233 on “State Economic Enterprises” published in the Official Gazette dated June 18, 1984 and numbered 18435.

For heavy truck diesel engines Project, 2.4 million Swedish Krona of 4 million Swedish Krona was paid to Swedish VOLVO Company as license agreement price. This Project was later transferred to BMC Company and the receivables were collected.

A license agreement was made with Japan MITSUBUSHI Company for production of 2 types of minibus, midibus and pick-up light diesel engines in Aksaray and in compensation of the agreement, 95.950.000 Yen was paid against 300 million yen. As the Project was cancelled by the State, the other payments were not made. The construction of the factory facilities with a covered area of 25.000 m2 were left uncompleted as carcass.

A license agreement was made with German ZF Company for Power Trains Project and the whole Project price, 5.525.000 DM was paid to the company. The construction of the factory facilities with a covered area of 20.000 m2 were left uncompleted as carcass.

According to the license agreement made with the Italian FIAT Company in April 7, 1977 for tractor and diesel engines Project, Tümosan acquired the license for 3, 4, and 6 cylinder diesel engines and 8 types of tractors within the range of 49-142 BG. Even though the engine project was included in investment program in 1978 and it was aimed to manufacture almost entire engine locally, the engine assembly and test workshop was completed in 1981 and the investment of engine block, cylinder head main bearing cap manufacturing lines was completed in 1987. Investments of manufacturing lines of other main engine elements like crankshaft, piston rod and camshaft could not be completed.

Under the scope of tractor manufacturing, the tractor assembly workshop was started operations in December 1983, and the tractor mechanical workshop consisting of gear box, front axle beam, beack cover, axle hub and transmission case manufacturing lines in april 1986. Tractor manufacturing operations were suspended between 1987 and 1992 and restarted in 1993.

The license agreement with FIAT Company ended in August 1988 and according to the agreement Tümosan continued to manufacture diesel engines and tractors with its own brand.

The Company was taken into privatization scope and program in August 18, 1998 and the shares of MKEK were transferred to Privatization Administration and it was decided to complete the privatization procedures in one year.

4 companies participated in the tender of the Company organized in April 24, 2000 and the best bid was given by Anadolu Joint Venture followed by Konya Selçuklu Joint Venture. As the companies determined as buyer at the tender failed to sign the sales contracts within due time, their securities were recorded as revenue and the tender could not successfully be completed.


Tümosan continued its operations in a limited way after the tender and in February 7, 2003 it was included in the body of Sumer Holding.

Another tender was organized for its privatization in 2004 and Tümosan was purchased by ALÇELİK Çelik Yapı İnşaat San ve Tic A.Ş. through sales of assets and all transfer & handover procedures were completed in July 1, 2004.
